Business Profile

Engineers to the Amusement Park Industry The company was founded almost 100 years ago and is still a family owned and run business. Founded in 1913 by John Harness Rundle the son of the village's vicar, the initial trade was steam haulage.

Over the next 30 years the business expanded having 10 steam traction engines and six sets of thrashing tackle. By now most repairs were carried out in house and the engineering side was well established. In 1947 the thrashing equipment was sold to concentrate on the manufacture and repair of agricultural machines.

John H Rundle the son of the founder took an active interest in the company until his death in 1990. He was succeeded by his sons Jack, Ken and Alan and daughter Sheila.

Ken (MD) looks after the expanding leisure division, Alan the electrical division and Sheila looks after the accounting need of the company.

The company's general manager is Steve Bell, who oversees the day to day running of the business as well as the machine tool and fan divisions.

The Globe Foundry was started in 1951, making cast iron products for over 50 years. Although the foundry closed in September 2003 the patterns have been retained and most castings are still available.

Around 1960 when the corn drier trade emerged John H Rundle Ltd were early suppliers and continue to this day as fan stockists and carry out a balancing and repair service.

Electric motors and gearboxes have become one of the main products, there being over 4000 motors in stock and official distributors of Bonfiglioli and Motovario transmission products. In 1994 Lincolnshire Rewinds at Lincoln was acquired.

Machine tools range from large radial drills to small bench grinders are available the larger machines tend to be second-hand although new machines can be sourced. The in house reconditioning service is complemented by our own lorry with crane for delivery and collection.

From the early days with steam engines the company has been involved with repairs in the fairground and amusement industry. Over the years John H Rundle Ltd has become recognised as the leading repair and renovation people for the traditional galloper. During the last ten years new machines have been built using modern technology and materials but keeping to the original styles. The leisure industry is a growing side of the business and covers refurbishment of both modern and old rides, replacement parts and specialist paint jobs. Various used rides are held in stock and new rides from other manufacturers can be supplied.
